Center for Keratoconus

Specialty Contact Lenses

For extremely clear vision

What are Specialty Contact Lenses?

The goal of our center is to give every patient the opportunity to get expert professional care utilizing state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment in a convenient comfortable setting in midtown Manhattan. We will accept most medical and vision plans for our contact lens services. We will coordinate closely with your primary eye doctor to assure that all of your visual needs are addressed, whether it be consultation, contact lenses, or surgery.

If your doctor wants us to optimize your lens fit, we offer all types of contact lenses for the treatment of keratoconus under the direction of Evan Kaplan, OD, MS, FAAO. By looking at a detailed map of your cornea we can determine the type and custom shape of a contact lens to fit your eye. Many patients continue to do well with standard gas permeable designs, but others, due to the shape of their corneas require much larger lenses (mini-scleral or scleral lens designs), hybrid lenses (hard lens center sandwiched inside a soft lens) or piggybacking (using a soft lens cushion underneath a gas permeable lens).

Dr. Kaplan has been teaching contact lenses to optometrists and ophthalmologists for over 25 years. He will directly see all patients and go over all of the options from contact lenses to surgical considerations to stabilize and improve the vision. Together with your referring doctor, we will figure out a plan so that you receive the best options for your particular condition.

These specialty contact lenses grant the best possible vision, and are worn by many people, including athletes Steph Curry and Jerry Stackhouse.

The EyePrintPRO is an optically clear, custom molded prosthetic scleral device designed to match the exact scleral contours of a patient’s individual eye which is unique like a fingerprint. Developed to address the most significant of elevation differences on an ocular surface, the EyePrintPRO accommodates patients with the most severe ocular disease, trauma, and/or ocular elevation differences. Through the rotational stability, enabled by this custom fit, the EyePrintPRO also features advanced optics, like optical prism in any direction, a fully customizable multifocal, and decentered optics. For most patients, this results in superior vision, a more comfortable fit, and translates into longer wear time. Dr. Kaplan is one of four practitioners trained in fitting these lenses in the tri-state area.
